Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth first came out in 1991 with the EP All Souled Out

Pete Rock (Peter Phillips) was influenced by soul and jazz music and it reflected in his tracks.

C.L. Smooth was usually refrained from cursing and was philosophy related in his rhymes.

They claim to have created Run-DMCs classic single Down with the King.
